Can I bring my pet?
Pets are welcome and actively encouraged at the majority of Freedom Aged Care communities. Your pet will be assessed when you join Freedom, to ensure they will fit in to the community and thrive as part of the Freedom family. Read more about our pet-friendly communities here.
Can I have my family and friends visit anytime I want?
Yes! We love having visitors and do not have set visiting hours. It is your Freedom home, so you can have visitors as you please and they can even stay overnight with you if you wish.
Can I eat dinner in my own home or do I have to go to the dining area?
Meals prepared at our onsite kitchen are optional and most of our Freedom homes have self-contained kitchens so you have the freedom to make your own meals. For those who have opted in to have meals prepared, we encourage social interaction in our community dining area, but if you don’t feel up to it, we can deliver your meal to your door. More about our fresh and nutritious meals here.
What type of daily activities occur at your community?
There is always something going on at our Freedom communities, arranged by the onsite team and tailored to each community, a calendar of events will be displayed in your community newsletter or noticeboard. Whether it be a bus trip, indoor bowls, themed lunch, or Happy Hour, there is something for everyone in our vibrant communities. Find out more here.
Do I have to go to social events if I do not want to?
We encourage our residents to keep active and socialise within the community however, it’s your choice - we will never make you do anything you do not want to do. Sometimes it’s nice to just relax or rest at home!
Can I bring my furniture and belongings?
Your Freedom home is your home; you can decorate the interior with your own furniture and decoration, and arrange it how you wish.
Will I be separated from my spouse or partner?
At Freedom, couples stay together. We are totally committed to ensuring couples stay together, regardless of their changing health needs. Find out more about living at Freedom as a couple here.
What happens if I go away on holiday?

What is the difference between Freedom Aged Care and a nursing home?
At Freedom you will have your own private self-contained home, whereas nursing homes are typically in communal buildings, where you have limited privacy and independence. As a genuine alternative to a nursing home, you will have access to 24-hour aged care that evolves with you through all stages of your journey. From everyday support for those with minimal care needs (such as assistance with cleaning, nutrition, or social activities), high clinical care, dementia and memory impairment therapy, and palliative care when the time comes. Balanced with activities, social interaction and entertainment, providing total quality of life for those living there, rather than focusing on only immediate care like most nursing homes. At Freedom you can continue to live with your spouse and pets and keep your family together, whereas this is not always possible in a nursing home. More about our home care communities here.
What are the costs?
Freedom residents purchase their home under a 99-year lease, there is an initial purchase price of your new Freedom home and weekly fees for the community services and 24/7 personal care. Weekly services charges and care fees are set at a level that covers Freedom’s costs and no more, and those on the Age Pension can defer a portion of these costs. Residents can also access government-funded care packages that help cover the cost of care, and can be used toward purchasing equipment and consumables.
At the end of your time with Freedom, Freedom keeps a percentage of the resale price of your Freedom home, which is known as a deferred management fee (DMF). The DMF covers the costs involved in providing all the wonderful amenities you enjoy as a resident in your village community. This DMF is set as a percentage of the property’s value when it is sold on to its next resident, with a higher percentage returned to you, or your estate. We encourage all parties relevant to the decision making process to meet with our sales consultants, who will provide a detailed overview of the Freedom’s fee structure and answer any questions you may have. We are completely transparent about any costs and if you would like any more information please feel free to call us on 1800 074 896 or enquire here.
