When Nell and her daughter-in-law, Kathy, went looking for an aged care community in Toowoomba, they had one condition that was absolutely non-negotiable. It didn’t matter how perfect the place was - how affordable it was, even how much care or lifestyle it promised - if long-time, close and furry friend Toby wasn’t welcome, neither was Nell!
As it turned out they just happened to find a place that was perfect - a place that was affordable – a place that did provide every level of care and lifestyle and, just as importantly, did welcome Toby. Unlike traditional nursing homes and many other aged care communities, Freedom loves the patter of tiny paws and claws - in fact we’ve already got 7 dogs, 5 cats, 3 birds, 12 fish and 20 egg-laying chooks in our community.
Not only that, Nell was able to move in to her beautiful, self-contained Freedom home immediately without any ACAT or means testing. Today she is a much-loved member of the close-knit Freedom family where residents enjoy every level of personal and nursing care from low to high, memory loss and palliative – all in the privacy and comfort of their own self-contained Freedom homes.
When she’s not out taking Toby for his walk through the tree-lined streets of her friendly Freedom neighbourhood, you might find Nell enjoying a fresh garden salad in the community dining room, having her hair done by the community hairdresser or sharing a wine with family and friends at Freedom’s own ‘Wrinkles’ bar & café.
Where-ever you find her, one thing is for sure – she won’t be far from Toby. Because love is fur-ever!
